how to remove distortion and color correction when displaying images on computer?

Hello everyone,

I have a Sony RX-100 I camera and I am having a problem:

When I download the images taken on my computer (raw format), when viewing them my computer first shows me one version of the image and a second later it shows me the same image a little more distorted and wider than the original one that is on the camera, also with different colors.

For viewing I am simply using the windows viewer and for downloading, the program that comes with sony.

What is this automatic change that is made when viewing? Does it have to do with my camera settings?

thanks and greetings

Well, this is all a matter of software.

Every raw file contains a small, lower resolution jpg file for preview purposes.

When you firstly open the file, the viewer will show this preview file. This was produced by the camera and the usual corrections for distortion and color have been applied.

After a few seconds later, your viewer found the time to process the raw file and presents you with a suggested way of developing the raw data - which do not jet have the correction applied.

So, before we get into details - what do you want to do? Why are you shooting raw?

Thanks for your reply Alison,

that could be possible but the problem is that on the camera viewer there is no fisheye effect and on my computer there is. So the difference between the 2 files is to big.

here is picture that i ttok to show both of them:

I was looking in my setting but i could not find any option for this issue.

best regards

Well, that's the point. There are no camera settings. To view a raw file properly on your computer, you need a converter that can apply the appropriate corrections.

There is free software available from Sony:

https://support.d-imaging.sony.co.jp/app/imagingedge/

or you can use third-party applications like Capture One or Lightroom.

But you did not answer the question why you are shooting raw in the first place.

ah I understand, I didn't know that windows doesn't have the ability to view raw files.

Thank you very much!

As Alison said: The screen of your camera shows a JPG, which ist corrected for lens distortion and optimized for contrast, nise and colur. The RAW file, as the name indicates, is without any correction, so you see the full distortion of the lens and the colours as they are detected by the sensor.

In the first case, the camera corrects the distortion, in the second case, you have to do it.
Thats the idea behind RAW: You get just, what the sensor sees and can do all the fine tuning yourself.
