That is correct. As long as you leave the embedded flash open after focusing the camera will take the photo with the flash's assistance. You can circumvent this by pushing the flash down after having successfully focused. You may want to hold down the AF/MF key to prevent the AF from ascertaining the focus (and thus defocusing) until you have taken the picture.
